Rock Against Racism 50th Anniversary: Love Punk, Hate Racism

It’s 50 years since Rock Against Racism (RAR) was formed to ‘organise a rank and file movement against the racist poison in rock music’. It remains our inspiration, and Love Music Hate Racism is back with a night of noisy, defiant DIY punk spanning the decades at @therumshack.

RAR showed the power of music to unite communities and challenge hate. Half a century later, that message is more important than ever. Join us for an evening of blistering live music, solidarity and community in the heart of Glasgow’s Southside.

RAJ AGAINST THE MACHINE

Raj Against The Machine have been making a name for themselves: bold, blistering and built for the pit. Fresh off this year’s Kelburn Pyramid Stage with @rajmahalmusic, expect full-pelt RATM covers from one of Glasgow’s most incendiary acts.

F*CK FARAGE ENSEMBLE

Originally formed as the F*ck Boris Ensemble, this Love Music Hate Racism all-star band returns for one night only. Same mission, new target: loud music, solidarity and absolutely nae time for the politics of division. Featuring members of @man_of_moon_ , @thekidneyflowers and @telekinephewsband. Expect punk classics, protest songs and a few surprises.

SPITBACK

Born out of Clifford Lane, Empire Studios and riotous DIY gigs, @spitback_band embody grassroots punk. Nae frills. Nae nonsense. Just relentless, raw punk from a band whose motto says it all: “SPIT BACK AND JACK OFF ON YOUR BOSSES TIME.”

THE ZIPS

Formed in the late ’70s, championed by John Peel, reunited decades later and still tearing up stages across the UK and Europe, The Zips remain as vital as ever. Fast, loud and packed with singalong anthems, they’re bringing nearly 50 years of punk history to the Rum Shack.
