Kai Reesu is a nu-jazz band, blending elements of hip hop , neo soul, ambient and old skool fusion , with a core rhythm section and a revolving door of other inclusions . The music frequently starts as a recorded jam , which is then fleshed out into a written form by the trio — which consists of Paul Copeland, Matt Sim and Robert McArthur , which is then expanded in form for horn section by Michael Butcher and dynamically finished by Alex Palmer . The project is highly collaborative, and has seen over 15 different guests since its inception last year, including rapper-poet CRPNTR , guitar maestro Luca Pisanu and tenor visionary Harry Weir. Some form of a Kai trio frequently act as houseband for Gaia Jeannot’s ‘NEOSESSIONS’ series at Nice N’ Sleazys . Kai have also recently added Alto saxophone demon Adam Jackson to the fore to complete the horn section . The project is a hybrid of jazz arrangement , classic ‘band’ style writing and hip-hop beatmaking , & exists somewhere at the intersection of Chris Dave, Terrace Martin , Kiefer & Brian Blade and the Fellowship Band.
